MODI ATTACKS...TRINAMOOL RETORTS

Shedding his reticence, Narendra Modi today attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for indulging in "votebank" politics, drawing a sharp retort from Trinamool Congress which alleged he had 'blood on his hands'. Addressing an election meeting in Siliguri, Modi, who had gone soft on Mamata at a rally in Kolkata just two months ago, said "when the government changed in Bengal, I thought there would be development. But nothing has happened. They are only indulging in votebank politics". "Unless she criticises Modi, her food does not get digested," Modi said in a sharp reaction to Mamata who has been hitting out at him in most of her public rallies, terming him communal and also blaming him for 2002 Gujarat riots. Modi's speech today was in contrast to his remarks in Kolkata in February when he had appeared to woo Mamata Banerjee and had even asked the people to have "Didi in Bengal and BJP in Delhi". The BJP's PM candidate said termed Mamata's promise of "parivartan" (change) as "fake".
"It's been two years since the new government took charge but have you seen any parivartan (change)? People have been cheated", he said, adding "you have seen fake parivartan, now it's time to see the real parivartan". "Mukyamantriji, aap jitne kichar uchaloge, utna jyada kamal khilega (Madam Chief Minister, the more you indulge in mudslinging, the more will the lotus bloom)," Modi said. Modi also criticised Trinamool Congress on the issue of multicrore Saradha chitfund scam, in which some TMC leaders were allegedly involved, and said those "those who have indulged in loot in such a short span of time must be punished. What will they do if they get more time and opportunity? " Retailating, Trinamool Congress MP and spokesman Derek O'Brien said in Kolkata that Modi had 'blood on his hands', an apparent reference to 2002 riots in Gujarat, and he was "daydreaming" of becoming the next PM but people would not allow such a 'nightmare'. "Narendra Modi is a person who has blood on his hands. He is trying to divide India on the basis of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists. We don't want such an India, we want a united India," Trinamool Congress MP and party spokesman Derek O' Brien said. "Modi advertising himself as PM candidate. He is daydreaming of becoming the PM. The people will India will never allow this nightmare to happen," O' Brien said.
